These are Umm al-Qura calendar dates. Because Dhu al-Hijjah begins with a crescent sighting, the observed date can shift by one day, and Saudi Arabia's announcement — which sets the Hajj schedule — usually comes about ten days before Eid.
What Eid al-Adha commemorates
Eid al-Adha, the "festival of sacrifice", remembers the story of the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son at God's command before a ram was provided in his place. Families who can afford it sacrifice a sheep, goat or cow, and the meat is traditionally divided three ways: for the household, for relatives and friends, and for people in need. Like Eid al-Fitr, the day begins with a special morning prayer.
The link with Hajj
Eid al-Adha falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, during the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. The day before, pilgrims gather on the plain of Arafat, and many Muslims around the world fast on that Day of Arafah. The festival and the days that follow (the tashreeq days) are when pilgrims complete the final rites. If you are travelling to Saudi Arabia in mid-May 2027, expect Mecca and Medina to be at full capacity and normal tourist visas to be restricted for those cities during Hajj.
Why the date is earlier each year
The Islamic year is about 354 days long, so Eid al-Adha moves roughly 11 days earlier in the Gregorian calendar each year — from June in 2025 to mid-May in 2027 and mid-April by 2030. It is always about 70 days after Eid al-Fitr.

Note the Singapore date: the Ministry of Manpower has gazetted Hari Raya Haji 2027 on Monday 17 May, a day after the Umm al-Qura date, because Singapore follows its own Islamic religious council's calculation.
Travelling around Eid al-Adha 2027
Bus stations and livestock markets get busy in the week before Eid in South Asia, Turkey and North Africa. Government offices close, and many shops shut on the first day. In Turkey, the holiday is a peak domestic travel period, so coastal resorts and intercity buses fill up early. Hotels and flights to the Gulf from South Asia are also in high demand.
