Countdown to Christmas Day, 25 December
How we count days and sleeps
Days until Christmas counts whole calendar days from today to 25 December, so on 24 December the answer is 1. Sleeps until Christmas is the number of nights you'll go to bed before Christmas morning — the same number, because each night's sleep takes you to the next date. Parents often prefer "sleeps" for young children, since "two more sleeps" is easier to picture than a date. Weeks until Christmas shows full weeks plus leftover days.
The countdown runs in your browser in your local time zone, so it ticks over at midnight wherever you are — useful when relatives in Sydney reach Christmas Day half a day before family in London or New York.
